Unexplained Colic

unexplained colicOne of the main reasons for infant colic is an immature or underactive gastrointestinal system. This is entirely normal, common and nothing to worry about, but it does cause the baby a lot of unease leading to a fussy and crying baby. For parents, it can be challenging to see the baby crying so much and being so uncomfortable.

All babies cry and fuss at times, however, when an infant who is otherwise healthy and well-fed cries for more than three hours a day and more than three days a week, you may be dealing with colic.

In the case of Colic spinal misalignments of the back and neck that may happen during the birthing process may lead to digestive issues which can lead to colic as well as abdominal pain or an underdeveloped or underperforming gastrointestinal system.

Symptoms of Colic may include:

  • A colicky baby will cry for no apparent reason.
  • The baby will often clench their fists, curl their legs, and tense the abdominal muscles.
  • The baby will usually get fussy at the same time and the period of distress can last a few minutes to several hours.
  • The cry is very high-pitched and does not respond to attempts to comfort. The baby’s face may become flushed and near the end of the episode, they may pass gas or have a bowel movement.

Treatment
