Learning to breastfeed your baby can be stressful – but it doesn’t have to be.
There are many benefits to breastfeeding our babies; however, it’s not always easy!
The birthing process can put stress on the head and spine of your baby. As a result of this, your baby may have injuries impacting the body that is affecting the ability to breastfeed. Reduced mobility or tension found in the upper neck, jaw, and skull can be easily assessed by examining the range of motion in the neck.
Infant Chiropractic addresses the underlying causes to reduce the tension in the neck, back and jaw, allowing the baby to latch more effectively and efficiently, so you and your baby can continue enjoying the benefits of breastfeeding without problems.
It is important to see a lactation consultant if your infant has the following difficulties in breastfeeding:
- Problems with latching, including nipple pain
- Babies who have difficulty coordinating their suck-swallow-breathe – tend to be very slow feeders and don’t gain well
- Fussiness in certain breastfeeding feeding positions
- Frequent feedings and appearing always hungry
- Problems feeding from a bottle as well as at the breast
- The baby is losing weight despite increased feeding frequency.
In the following video, Lactation Consultant Rosa Zamudio Inf, IBCLC and SF of Lactation Maman Cigogne, and myself, Dr. Natasha Hayden, Prenatal and Pediatric Chiropractic care, discuss how a multi-disciplinary approach works best to resolve lactation issues and torticollis (also known as wryneck, is a twisting of the neck that causes the head to rotate and tilt at an odd angle.)
Having a community of healthcare professionals working together with one goal of supporting the whole family improves the patient experience and delivers better outcomes.
